작가노트

전시 주제는 Mutual Connection 호상연결(互相連結)입니다. 임의의 두 점을 연결하여 이어진다는 의미로 작가와 타자(환경, 사회)를 상대적 대상으로 보고 관계(공간) 속에서 불가피하게 일어나는 상황을 소환합니다. 관계됨은 갈등을 전제로 하고 집단의 논리가 우선으로 작동합니다. 개인의 잣대나 욕망은 쉽게 용납되지 않으므로 이를 바라보는 관점과 순응, 수용의 방식을 갖느냐가 한 사람의 삶을 좌우합니다. 그의 본질은 서로 다름의 상충이므로 대립을 겪는 과정에서 느끼는 고통과 괴로움은 갈등의 파생작용일 뿐 본질로 대치될 수 없습니다. 연결이라는 관계성에 충돌은 필수불가결의 요소이나 골치 아픈 만큼 재미있고, 고통스러운 만큼 깊이 있는 서사로 남습니다. 갈등의 현재형과 과거형이 사뭇 다른 문체로 묘사되는 이유입니다. 시각적 언어로 사용된 깨어짐, 옹이 등은 작자의 의도적 표현이라 주장하기 어려운 사용매체의 물리적 압력으로 인한 자연발생적 현상임을 밝힙니다. 이를 완성형으로 수용하는 것이 쉽지 않았음도 고백합니다. 작품의 소재인 유리는 타자로서의 역할을 충실히 수행함으로서 작자에게 적지 않은 깨달음을 줍니다. 나와 상대가 함께 호흡하기위한 적절한 거리와 그 사이에 존재하는 균열과 견제는 필수적이라는 것, 또한 반목의 미학은 우연의 결과일 뿐 결코 계획되어지지 않는다는 것. 관계 속에서 바로 서는 것에 대해 생각합니다. 자신의 허물어진 부분과 뾰족해진 부분을 살피고 가다듬는 시간은 스스로를 반추하는 일이자 자기 성장의 방향을 확인하는 시간이기도 합니다. 여기저기 흠집이 나고 물집과 굳은살이 잡혔습니다. 내가 가진 나만의 무늬입니다.

The show is about Mutual Connection. It refers to connecting two arbitrary points and conjures to situations that inevitably occur in a relationship(space) by one and others(environment, society). Relationships presuppose a conflict, and the logic of the group generally operates first. Individual standards or desires are not easily tolerated, so the perspective on collision and the attitude of compliance and acceptance determine a person's life. The pain and suffering are only a byproduct of opposition and can't be replaced by the essence. Conflict is an essential element in the relationship, but it remains as a narrative that as interesting as headache and as deep as painful. This is why the present or past tense of conflict are described with different emotions. The breaking and warping used as a visual language are unintentional, natural phenomena caused by physical pressure from the medium. I confess accepting them as completed forms wasn't easy. The glass as a medium fulfills the role of a subject, giving me enlightenment. The appropriate distance is necessary in relationship to breathe together. The cracks and checks existing in between are vital. The aesthetics of collision are the result of chance and can never be planned. I'm thinking about standing up for myself in conflict. Examining and refining the parts of broken and sharp is a time to ruminate myself and also a time to consider the direction of self-growth. Scratches, blisters, and calluses here and there that make a unique pattern called identity.
